Ryanair Switch Focus To Lanzarote & Canaries
Leading low cost flight operators Ryanair have recently announced that they will
be creating 39 new services to the Canary Islands this winter. As the company switch their attention away from services at Stanstead to take advantage of the current suspension of taxes and charges at all Spanish airports.
The 15 new Ryanair flights to Lanzarote will be available from Birmingham, Bristol, Bournemouth, East Midlands, Luton, Liverpool and Prestwick. Commencing from October. Whilst a further 16 services to Gran Canaria and 8 to Tenerife are also planned.
These services come as welcome news for the many overseas owners of apartments and villas in Lanzarote amidst a backdrop of falling tourist numbers. As the holiday island struggles to come to terms with an 18% fall in foreign arrivals during the first half of this year. A picture that is also being replicated across the rest of the Canaries.
Ryanair have predicted that these new flights could bring as many as 2 million tourists to the islands this winter. But have also indicated that the extension of services beyond March 31st will be dependent upon the ongoing waiver of airport charges and taxes by the Spanish airport authority AENA.
